I was able tot go to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma July 19 through July 23rd for a Veterans Affairs conference. One of my many hats at CWI is being the VA Coordinator. I was excited to go because 1) I have never been to Oklahoma before and 2)I was able to go with a co-worker as well as BSU's VA Coordinator, so I wouldn't be there not knowing anyone as it had been when I went to my conference in L.A. I was concerned about the weather with high temperatures and humidity, but the weather turned out to be very pleasant. The locals said we were experience unusual weather. We stayed just a couple blocks from the historic Brick Town portion of Ok City. It has a water canal with water taxi's that can give you a tour or take you any place in Brick Town. We spent most evenings there eating dinner. One night we ate dinner at "Toby Keith's I love this Bar and Grill" restaurant. The food was great! We visited the Ok City Memorial. It was such a beautiful memorial, it felt so sacred. I blubbered!! We also drove to Muskogee, OK to see the VA Processing centers which was 2 hours away from OK City, we drove through Tulsa on our way there. The drive was amazingly beautiful for a place with no mountains...just swells as RK, BSU's VA Coordinator put it. On our last night there we had the President's awards dinner at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum. It was a spectacular museum....I could have spent hours there. The trip was a great learning experience for my job and lots of fun to be able to explore a new place.
